Dicky is one of swing's greatest trombone players. His style featured a blend of gritty blues with fluid solos. In the early 30s he played with Fletcher Henderson, Benny Carter and Spike Hughes. From 1938 to 1945 he played in Count Basie's band. Later he played toured with Jimmy Rushing and B.B. King.
