Art's massive jams helped popularize the flugelhorn. Art played with Hampton Hawes, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver and Gerry Mulligan. In the 50s Art recorded a handful of albums on the Prestige label, playing with Art Taylor, Sonny Rollins and Kenny Clarke.
